Marof

is a Slovenian winery created in 2006.

In 1999 Uros Vald began his training in the family business in Maribor. He is now the reference man of this young reality on the border between Slovenia and Hungary. His experience, intuition and tenacity led him to always address new challenges. In 2009 he joined Marof estate as a partner. And so a story, steeped in nature, nobility and dream, where the imprinting of wines is of French influence, begins to be told.

The place is Prekmurje (Oltremura), one of the seven historic provinces within the village Mačkovci, in the Goričko area in Slovenia.

Area:
beyond the river Mura,in the woods, hides a land treasure of noble influence. On the north-eastern border of Slovenia at an altitude of 320-350 m above the sea level, where the variations in temperature are very strong, lie Marof vineyards .

Soil: quartz, clay, basalt tufa, phyllite slates, calcareous-sandy marl, marine sediments - Age of the vineyards: 17 - 45 years
Spontaneous fermentation with only autochthonous yeasts, four days of skin contact. Ageing on fine lees for 18 months in 500l and 25 hl oak barrels.

Fine and dry, its scent recalls crème brûlée and saffron, toast and ash. Fresh and clean. Well balanced acidity and flavor. Long and precise the sip.

Breg Chardonnay

Vintage 2020

100% Chardonnay

Gravel flint, siliceous sand and sandy clay – It is a vineyard of 35 years located in Bidonci at 320 – 350m above sea level.

Spontaneous fermentation with only autochtonous yeasts, two days on the skins. Aging on fine lees for 15 months in 500 l oak barrels. No filtration.

Wide olfactory spectrum: apricot and sandalwood, saffron and paprika, vanilla pod and sumac.

On the palate the wine is harmonious with a lively acidity. Fruits such as cedar and pear. A silky wine that, in the final sip, makes you taste the terroir.

100% Sauvignon

Soil: flint gravel, silica sand and sandy clay – Age of the vineyards: 17-45 years. Spontaneous fermentation with only indigenous yeasts, five days of skin contact. Aged on fine lees for 15 months in of 600 l and 30 hl oak barrels.

Bold and precise with scents of passion fruit, white melon, roasting-terracotta and a note of green gooseberry typical of Sauvignon. Perfectly recognizable in its spicy, full and creamy tones. Elegant and with a long finish.

soil: marine sediments, basalt tufa,  calcareous -clay marl - Age of the vineyards: 25-45 years
Spontaneous fermentation with only indigenous yeasts, ten days of skin contact. Ageing on fine lees in 25 hl oak barrels for 18 months.

Straw yellow with greenish nuances. Aromas of white peach, passion fruit and pomegranate. Notes of thyme with clear traces of flint. The entrance in the mouth is clean and fresh. Zesty wth high acidity.

Age of the vineyards: 45 years

Mineral and taut. Spontaneous fermentation with only indigenous yeast. Dry wine, delicious and with an evidently full and robust structure.

Vine age: 45 years - 320/350 m a.s.l.                     

Spontaneous fermentation with  wild yeasts only, 20 days of skin contact. Aged on fine lees for 22 months in 25 hl oak barrels. Unfiltered

Deep gold.

Primary aromas of apricot fruit, yellow plum and mimosa flowers. Earthy sensations of chalk, secondary notes of crispy crackers and deep hints of spices, such as cumin.

The sip is multifaceted and tenacious. The vigor, well supported by acidity, is like dance for the palate. Of quality the structure. The taste is full and lively with chalky hints. A regal wine.

Breg Cuvée Red

Vintage 2016

Blaufränkisch, Merlot, Zweigelt

soil: quartz sand, clay - Age of the vineyards: 17 - 25 years
30 days of maceration in 50 hl oak barrels. Aged for 24 months in 228 l French oak barrels and 30 hl oak casks.

Intense ruby red. Aromas of blackberry and black cherry, rose and bramble sting, black pepper and licorice. Well structured with juicy and refreshing acidity, the wine denotes a good persistence.

Mackovci Modra Frankinia Blaufrankish

Vintage 2015

100% Blaufränkisch

soil: sand and stones of quartz, clay
thirty-forty-five days of maceration in 50 hl oak barrels. Aged for 24 months in 30 hl oak casks. An additional 27 months in 25 hl oak barrels.

It shows a limpid violaceous colour. Dry with rustic hints of earthiness. Scents of first fruits such as currants match with notes of blood and iron gradually puffing light aromas of tobacco. It caresses cardamom, truffle and  leather. Mineral, young with a great potential.
